Republic of Turkey

Turkey’s geographical position has defined its strategy to develop political and economic relations with Western and Eastern Europe, countries of the Mediterranean, Black Sea and Caspian regions as well as countries of the Near and Middle East. As part of such a policy and the issue of the liberalization of Turkey’s trade with the world, it has gone in several directions, so Turkey has an enviable number of free trade agreements, and its current activities on this plan have also been taken to the Asia Pacific region. However, it is undoubtedly that the European Union has a special significance for it.

Since 1995, Turkey has been in a customs union with the EU and has been granted the status of a candidate for EU membership in 1999. In the system of networked preferential trade, it is very important that Serbia signed the Free Trade Agreement with Turkey.

The agreement was signed on June 1, 2009. The ratification process in both countries should have been completed by the end of 2009, to come into force on January 1, 2010. The agreement has 38 members divided into four chapters: Industrial products; Agricultural and fishery products; Services and investments; General conditions.
